Hi, I’m Leslie. I’m part of the team for the new WorldofGood.com, an eBay Community. I’m happy to be here today to tell you more about the new WorldofGood.com community and answer any questions you may have.
The WorldofGood.com Community (www.community.worldofgood.com) is a central source for anyone who wants to make more informed choices about the products they are buying. Today we’ll explain the idea behind WorldofGood.com and how you can use it to share your ideas and learn about the impact your shopping decisions make.
This is only the beginning. The WorldofGood.com Community is the first phase of building the world’s largest online marketplace of people- and planet-positive products from around the globe. Our mission is to provide a trusted platform where individuals can create positive change through commerce, as part of a global community.
WorldofGood.com is a collaboration between eBay Inc. and World of Good, Inc. – two companies that share a common vision of creating positive change through commerce.
Through blogs, discussion threads, and articles by media and organizations, community members can discuss and read up on topics such as how to shop responsibly while traveling, how to start a fair trade town, and what ethical sourcing means.
There are many ways to align your values with your shopping decisions, such as buying Fair Trade coffee, organic food, or Made in the USA or union-made products. If you’ve ever tried to look for these products or wondered why people do this, then WorldofGood.com is a community for you to share ideas and get answers.
How to Get Started 1. Visit http://community.worldofgood.com. 2. Click on “Log In” in the top right hand corner if you are not already logged into eBay – this will take you to an eBay log in page. 3. Use your eBay username and password to sign in. 4. You will be re-directed back to the World of Good Community homepage after login.
Next, set up your profile 1. Click on “My Profile” in the top right hand corner. On the left hand navigation, under Actions, click on “Edit Profile”. 2. This takes you to a form for editing your profile. Here you can input a variety of information about yourself. You are required to complete every field with a star next to it. We recommend that you complete all of the other fields, as well. 3. Click “Save”. You will be re-directed to your profile page, where you can see exactly how your profile will look to the rest of the Community.
Now you can connect with other community members when you write a blog, ask a question by starting a discussion thread, comment on other community members’ blogs and discussions, and vote in a poll.
Some of the most popular discussions on the site so far are about Gap’s Product (RED) line of clothing, Socially & Eco Conscious Beauty Products, and little things we can do to make a difference.
Some people have suggested that little ways we can make a difference in our everyday choices include using Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs, shopping at a local farmer’s market, and reducing the margins when you print.

Hi DrPhineas -- eBay initiated this project because of our interested in leveraging the eBay platform to empower producers. We hope it will make a difference in the world.
Thanks Leslie. Has World of Good and eBay discussed at all the possiblity of adding a tag(like we have stars) or a specific category that would identify green goods and fair-trade items? And although I have your site listed on my 'go to' list, I haven't been there to see if WoG carries a listing of fair trade sources.
Hi DrPhineas -- Thank you for adding us to your "Go to list!" That's great.
Great question! Identifying the social impact of a particular product has been a central part of what we are doing. When our marketplace launches later this year, sellers will be able to identify the social impact of the product they are selling to let buyers know whether it's people-positive, planet-positive, animal friendly or supporting a cause.
Thanks Leslie for taking time out of your busy schedule to provide information on worldofgood.com
This concludes our workshop for today. If you have more questions be sure to visit worldofgood.com at the following URL http://community.worldofgood.com
Be sure to check the Workshop Calendar for upcoming workshops.
MeganPR -- Our focus right now is really on individual producers and producer organizations. We will have a growing base of information about eco friendly products as we expand, but for now I'd have to say that is not available.
