. . . except on a discussion board.

Thank you redtag.....now I hope they "get" it, has nothing to do with the settings.

If I read one more pink reply about changing the settings......I am going to plotz!

Poetic justice, has been served!

That pretty much cuts to the chase. There can't possibly be any argument for the new format being better in any way shape or form as far as an information exchange.

They couldn't have made things much worse.

Why is it that they never improve things, just degrade them?

I sort of feel sorry for the poor dude or dudette that came up with this "new" plan. May they be forced to read 100 disucssions per day...if they can find them.

the poor dude or dudette that came up with this

That'd be this guy:

Is that the correct spelling of his last name? I think it really has 2 Os, and no A. Did mange to get in 2 posts finally on the regular boards, after 4 tries & document contains no data alerts. And it looks like 0s get an extra 10 posts today, 10 here & 10 over there;)

) View Listings | Report Feb-04-09 15:17 PST 10 of 104
Efficient vs frustrating. Functional vs dysfunctional.

eBay has really gone off the deep end. What moron can possibly think what eBay continues to do helps anyone.

Now even the discussion boards are nothing but a mess. Only thing left is to do this to the search view and flush themselves right out of business.

Idiots, is putting it politely.

) View Listings | Report Feb-04-09 15:19 PST 11 of 104
That'd be this guy:

Perhpas he has one of those special monitors that can be flipped sideways...so if one chooses to show more threads per page he doesn't have to scroll for five minutes to see the discussion topics?

That must be it.

May he have to participate in the regular Seller Central Board for five hours per day. ....to keep up with his own deign...without the special monitor.

Bet $100 bucks he reverts to the old form in 30 minutes.

I will send him some visine for the fatigue obtained by having to view all those red people avitars..and a new mouse,,,,the scroll is worn out after an hour.

) View Listings | Report Feb-04-09 15:21 PST 12 of 104
Red tag- awesome image, i was just thinking about making exact comparison- you saved me the hassle!!

MORANTES!!!!!!!!! & whoever else is in charge- PLEASE WAKE UP!!! and tell clown Bozo to stop messing up with your site, take away his crayons and his passwords!!

at least revive efficiency of the index page- as shown in the OP- you completely destroyed the functional aspect. it is impossible to scroll through all the white spaces- eye strain and headache hit in about 3 minutes of attempted use!!

) View Listings | Report Feb-04-09 15:22 PST 13 of 104
I don't want to attack the guy and his "team" personally. Perhaps somehow they thought these were good ideas. That they weren't is okay - they tried and failed utterly - it happens. The real test is what they do now. Do they say the heck with everyone - this is the way it is or can we see maturity and a quick "Whoops we are sorry - we will go back to the old boards and seek to implement change that will HELP users from that format".

) View Listings | Report Feb-04-09 15:24 PST 14 of 104
Thank you for the screen shot, exclusively_red_tag.

Who is the poor guy's boss? no, don't tell me he answers to mr. disruption himself?

No wonder this crap went live.

And not to mention all those default ebay avatars certainly add personality to the forum!

I think that the past year should tell you what they are going to do now.....NOTHING.

The number of threads or posts you have on a page is configurable using the Settings link, up to 50 per page. In addition to giving you this flexibility, we purposely did not make the thread titles smaller or more constricted so that it isn't difficult to read, given the concerns we often hear regarding font size, etc.

Thanks,
Garnor

Garnor,

Arent you tired of saying "use the settings link"?

Its not about the actual number of posts that you can see on a page, its about the cluttered mess the new layout is. Its about all the irrelevant information and avatars that take away from the actual usage of the boards.

Walter

WE cannot see 50 at a time on the same screen. You still have to scroll yourself to death.....

Please, just accept the fact that it is not a practical layout for a user information format and FIX it.

Does this guy still not get it?

Amazing!

) View Listings | Report Feb-04-09 15:30 PST 22 of 104
Garnor - The issue isn't how many fit on a page, it is how many fit on a screen at one time. I'm using a 19" LCD monitor. On the old boards, I could view 26 thread titles without having to scroll. On the new board, I can view 7. That's a 73% reduction in the number of threads a user can see at one time.

The vibrancy of the discussion boards came from threads on a wide range of topics and the relative ease of identifying threads that interested the reader. Of those 26, I might only click on 2. Now I have to scroll 4 times and hope I don't miss those two I'm interested in.

This change will only serve to chill conversation and effectively end the usefulness of the boarda as a business and learning tool.

That posts show you are completely out of touch with what's going on here, Garnor. Or you are just ignoring the obvious because it's your job to do so.

*shrug*

I can see this particular board was just a joke. I should have known better.

Garnor, are you understanding that people really don't like the changes? That we can't get the information we need in the new format? That we are not children? That the discussion boards are not a networking site but a place where the information matters? I have read through most of the reaction on this special board and on three discussion boards (antiques, booksellers, and PGP) and EVERYBODY HATES IT. Does your boss look at this at all? Or are you the only person in charge?

) View Listings | Report Feb-04-09 15:32 PST 25 of 104
Garnor - The issue isn't how many fit on a page, it is how many fit on a screen at one time.

EXACTLY.....

Five per screen....unacceptable.

) View Listings | Report Feb-04-09 15:35 PST 26 of 104
Garnor - So instead of offering a font size option for those with sight issues - the entire board was redesigned with total clutter, annoying avatars and less flow of information ????? Why the total overhaul when a simple option could fix things.

I am not exaggerating when I say the new format is headache inducing - thats not overstating it - it is LITERAL.

Please have the maturity and leadership ability to say this has failed in many important ways - go back to the old board style and make use of some of the positive changes you all came up with - within that framework.

Not trying to be mean - but this is seriously awful.

) View Listings | Report Feb-04-09 15:37 PST 27 of 104
The issue is ... how many fit on a screen at one time.

We're going to wear out our index fingers by scrolling too much and will not be able to list on eBay!

Also, we'll have less time to list because it takes so long to read the thread topics.

Thanks for trying to make it better.

Linda

WE cannot see 50 at a time on the same screen. You still have to scroll yourself to death.....

it's all the wasted vertical space- extra entries- each in its own line within the post that make everything bloated VERTICALLY (while the main column is squeezed from the sides) - that's what take efficiency away, and no "setting" will fix it within this format.

you destroyed ESSENTIAL reference feature to flash people with silly useless avatars! When a newbie comes to the board to ask a question (as "help" often suggests) - why do they care about other people's doggies, kitties and screen names??

the boards are about Ebay information first and foremost. Myspace already exists, so does Facebook and online dating services, no need to drag them in here.

) View Listings | Report Feb-04-09 15:55 PST 30 of 104
Plus there's the "usual" preference setting problem with absolutely anything new at eBay. I set my viewing preference to 50 threads as instructed; but of course, once I logged off and logged back in, that preference once again reverted back to the default.

) View Listings | Report Feb-04-09 15:56 PST 31 of 104
THE SCREEN ONLY SHOWS FIVE or SEVEN...IF there are tacked posts to the top of the page you will see NOTHING ELSE ...unless you scroll yourself to death.

Click the back button and you start all over......

You can put all the silly red people you want....on another page.

Fix the topics page to show 20 PER SCREEN...not per page.

) View Listings | Report Feb-04-09 16:09 PST 32 of 104
I set my preference to 50 too but I can't see more than 5 on the screen.

My arm hurts from all the scrolling.

) View Listings | Report Feb-04-09 16:12 PST 33 of 104
I set my preference to 50 too but I can't see more than 5 on the screen.

that's part of this whole 'not updating' thing which also includes posts not showing up...

Once you finally can get to a page that isn't cached, you should see 50 posts.

That was the second thing I noticed...

First of all I come to discussion boards for information - not to have to monkey with settings links or customize the pages or whatever.

I don't want to waste my time scrolling. I want a neat clean format where I can quickly pick out what I want to read.

And, I WANT TO BE ABLE TO READ IT without getting a headache from all the different colors, bright white space, or cutesy pictures. This might suit the younger hip crowd, but us seniors just want the facts not a bunch of childish squiggles.

Do what you want with the social chit chat boards, but leave the business related discussion boards alone.

) View Listings | Report Feb-04-09 16:14 PST 35 of 104
I dislike the wasted vertical space as much as anyone else, even on my 24" monitor, and my scroll finger, too, is hurting, so I've started using the keyboard to scroll.

Both the 'down arrow' key and (especially) the 'page down' key are helping a lot.

) View Listings | Report Feb-04-09 16:19 PST 36 of 104
Hopefully, dear garnor will be strapped to a chair and forced to navigate on Seller Central in the morning with his 50 per page/ 5 per screen and answer questions in the updated/no opt out format on DIAL UP and a 15" screen. .

form FOLLOWS function.

Pretty basic rule if you're going to design anything at all.

It was summarily ignored here.
