Hello,
This is Mike from the Selling Tools team. Today we are going to be covering the topic of revising listings. We will be showing how to revise your listings using eBay tools - including the Sell Your Item Form, the Bulk Edit form for revising multiple listings, and Turbo Lister.

I am joined by other pinks who have particular expertise in each of our tools. As well as pinks with specific knowledge of the Paperless payments policies, Return Policy and Handling Time requirements, as well as shipping in the media categories.

I'll start out with some background and instructions and then open it up to questions.

Thanks,

Mike

This easiest way to revise a single item is via the regular Sell Your Item form on the site. There are many ways to get into revise. You can go to the listing Item page and click on "Revise your item" or in My eBay or Selling Manager, highlighting your listing and clicking on "Revise"

After you have done this, you will be brought to the Sell Your Item form in revise mode. Depending on how long your item has been on the site and if it has any bids, you will be able to revise your listing.

After you make your changes, continue in the form and click on "Revise your listing" to make the changes.

Using bulk edit is a great way to revise more than one listing at one time - all sellers have access to the bulk edit tool.
If you use My eBay, you are limited to revising 10 listings at one time. If you are a Selling Manager or Selling Manager Pro subscriber, you can select up to 200 listings to revise at one time.

On the Active Items page, select the items to which you’d like to add Return Policy, and click the Edit button.

On the Edit Listings page, select Return Policy to edit, and select “Edit listings in bulk.” Click on the Continue button.

Select “Edit” from the Return Policy drop down.

Select a Return Policy. Click the Continue button.

On the Review & Submit page, review your changes and click Submit.

Congratulations, you have successfully added Return Policy to your listings!

Another great way to revise your listings is to use Turbo Lister. In order to utilize Turbo Lister to revise your active listings, you must first synchronize your active listings on eBay with Turbo Lister.
When setting up your Turbo Lister file, select "Synchronize your data with eBay"

Alternatively, if your Turbo Lister file is already set up, click on "Synchronize" from the main Turbo Lister menu and choose to synchronize your active and scheduled listings.

Turbo Lister can be used to edit multiple items at the same time, edit multiple items individually, or to simply edit a single item.

Go to the ‘Listing Activity’ view in the left navigation panel on the main view, and select ‘Active Listings’ folder. This folder contains all your active listings on eBay.

Click on the format field, to sort your listings by format type. Turbo Lister allows editing multiple items of the same format.

Select all the items you would like to edit in a specific format, and click ‘Edit’.

This will open a new edit window, with a warning message ‘Changes will apply to all selected items’

Photobucket

Once you have completed all the changes, click ‘Save’ and then ‘OK’ to proceed.

In the main Turbo Lister view, the flagged items indicate the list of items that were revised. Select all the listings that you have revised. Right click and select ‘Synchronize all items now’.

Photobucket

The listings will be revised on the eBay site.

Another great use of Turbo Lister is if you need to make changes to your listings' description. For example, if you need to remove the wording that you accept checks and money orders, this can be done using "search and replace" within Turbo Lister. The instructions below show how this can be done to your listings.

Note that depending on the time remaining on your listings, or if the listings have a bid, you may not be able to revise parts of your active listing. In these instances, you will need to end your listing and make the changes to Ended listings in Turbo Lister. After you make your changes, you can relist your listings back on the site.

In order to use Search and Replace with Turbo Lister, go to the 'Search and Replace' option from the 'Edit' menu option in TL.

Photobucket

This will bring up the Search and Replace option in Turbo Lister. Just like Microsoft Word, put in the word or phrase that you wish to search for. In the "Replace With" area, enter in the text that you want to be placed into your listings.

Select how you want to apply your changes and Turbo Lister will do the rest.

Photobucket

After Search and Replace has been successful, simply list or synchronize your listings and the changes to your listings will appear on the site.

At this time I want to point out a situation that some of our sellers have run into when trying to bulk edit their listings. Some sellers have reported that they receive an error informing them that Item Specifics have changed and they cannot use Bulk Edit. This happens in some known cases and there are currently two alternatives when you receive this message:

1) Revise the items one by using your the Sell Your Item form.
2) End your listings. Synchronize the Ended listings into Turbo Lister. Make your changes in Turbo Lister and then relist your listings.

At this point, I'd like to open the workshop open to any questions that you have about revising your listings.

Hi, I have done my 300 and working on my sister 800 listings. I have used most of your suggestions. I believe for me with mostly mutiple item listing I am mostly using Turbo. I sorted by title and then go through and edited the one that it will let me and the items that only let me do partial changes I do what I can and then end listings. I do so many a day. When I synchronize, I then sell similiar and then edit all at once and do remaining changes and then upload. Be sure to change your remaining amount of inventory because it carries over your original inventory. I have found bulk editing in selling manager, you get too many errors and not worth all the time. Turbo has its quirks but if you have a lot of changes it seems to be the best alternative. Keep your new return and closing in word and just copy and paste. Once you get the hang of it you will get a system. Hope this helps all of you who are struggling as I. Good luck.

Here are my instructions for turbo that I wrote up.

Open form

Go to shipping and click shipping options
Change insurance
Handling time
Dont click remember with future listing because it will freeze
(try it and see if it works for you, maybe just my machine)

Then go to payment section
Unclick checks, and money orders
If it wont let you do that click
auto payment and then unclick and it will take checks and money orders off.
You can leave auto pay clicked if not in auction or multiple items.
I have been just doing on patterns because I got so many errors and had to redo.
The auto pay has too many cliches.

Then go to closing and returns
Change each one of them
be sure to click returns,
7 days money back and then put in refund policy or it will not stay there.

Then make sure you click save at bottom of page.

If you have a multi item listing and example you originally had 24 items and sold one
then it will only allow you to change shipping options and paying method. go ahead and do
what you can then save and then end listing. When you sync you will have to do sell similiar
and go to all the items you ended and do edit, make the rest of changes and upload to ebay.
Be sure and go in and change your item available totals. Otherwise it will still say 24 instead of 23.
Once you are done delete ended items.

If you get an error on an item after sync then go to view item on line and do edit and fix
what ever is wrong.

Good luck.....(:

I have over 1000 7 day fixed price listings on Ebay that are set to auto relist based on various rules using Seller Manager Pro inventory templates. How can I bulk change all my templates to the new FP30 listing so that when the current listing expires, the new auto relist one becomes FP30? I was on live chat and was told it could be done via File Exchange but after much reading I cannot seem to find how it is done.

Every time I try to bulk edit I receive the message, 'Item can not be processed due to a system error.' I have tried to bulk edit through Selling Manager Pro and My eBay and I get the same message either way. I have also tried to use bulk edit on items that have been revised or listed in the past few days and I still get the same message. I work on a Mac with Firefox. Could that be the problem? Any suggestions or ideas? Thank you.

I just tried to bulk edit on a PC instead of my Mac and it works. So it must not be compatible with Macs. Any chance that will change? Also, is there any way to bulk Edit 'Additional checkout instructions'?

Relative to TL, can you sychronize with multiple quantity listings that have alaready had a sale? If not, can you suggest a simple method to separate them so not all would have to ended?

In addition with relation to return policy, I'm reading reports that using "no return policy" results in "return policy is not specified"-is this something we are going to run into after doing all the revisions?

) View Listings | Report Oct-07-08 08:24 PDT 14 of 107
Seller Manager bulk edit is slow, and balky. Many errors, many items can't be revised. It seems to be a bit better now than last year, when it changed 200 of my items to 'local pickup only' and moved my location to some island. Then eBay told me there was no way to bulk edit those changes back.

200 at a time isn't much help for sellers with thousands of listings. And the item specifics glitch is a huge problem that eBay needs to straighten out.

TL was also balky last time I used it.

My concerns:

If eBay is going to change the rules in the middle of the game, large sellers need a simple, RELIABLE tool that will allow us to remain in compliance. It needs to be able to:

1. Make search/replace edits to the descriptions, including listings with quantities, and some sales. Neither tool currently does this. It's not reasonable to expect a large seller to end and revise thousands of listings because eBay changed the rule for what was allowed in the description.

2. We need the ability to simply make some of these changes globally, in seller preferences. For example, there's no reason that a seller shouldn't be able to specify his return policy globally ONCE -- in seller preferences, and eBay can apply it to all the listings. Same with Payment options. Same with handling time.

Some sellers might opt not to make these settings globally, depending on the diversity of what they sell. But for many sellers, these settings will apply to all of their listings, and should be set globally. Simple, quick, and reliable.

Here is an example of copy and paste using formatting:
And some of my questions:
Do you have a search tool so we can find which of our
auctions are in violation and still have money order
in them? We need to know if we missed any since ebay
is suspending so many people for "violations".

In additional check out intsrtuctins at the bottom of
the SYI relist form will a mass correction remove the
current text and install my prefered text to the
entire box.
Most search and replace function are only for the term
you insert into the search.

Can ebay do a check and give us a clean bill of
health? If not clean give us auction numbers that need
correcting.

How do I revise a STORE listing with multiple items
when someone has already purchase one item and I still
have items remaining in that listing. Ebay locks me
out after one purchase.

I have a suggestion for these workshops.
Post the pertinent information a day or more ahead of the workshop so we can work with and it come here asking questions relating to our success for failure of the techniques given.

I am working on editing auctions but am getting errors relisting 200 item in my ebay
cannot relist due to system error
A script error that keeps popping up

OR how about rerunning this workshop so issues we have and be discussed.

IF YOU HAVE ITEMS WITH MULTIPLE QUANITIES AND YOU HAVE SO ONE YOU HAVE TO END AND RELIST. THERE IS NO EASY WAY. YOU HAVE TO JUST GO THRU AND IF SOMETHING HAS SOLD YOU KNOW YOU WILL HAVE TO RELIST. I DID 5 OR 6 LISTING ALL ALIKE AND IF THEY WOULD NOT LET ME DO REVISIONS THEN GO BACK AND DO ONE AT A TIME. DOING ONE TYPE OF ITEM AT A TIME. ALL OF YOU THAT ARE WRITING ABOUT SELLING MANAGER AND BULK EDITING SHOULD READ MESSAGES ABOVE. NO WAY TO DO 200 AT A TIME I COULD NOT EVEN DO 25 AT A TIME HALF WOULD HAVE ERRORS FOR NO REASON. TURBO LISTER IS YOUR ONLY SOLUTION.

Question to workshop moderator:
If you have a lot of text and html to change in the large 'description' filed, then what tool on Ebay would allow that?

(I know of an online tool 'off Ebay' that allows it, but would prefer to do it 'inside Ebay')

This is epecially important since we have a lot of text and html in our templates that will need to be changed due to these new rules.

Is there going to be a loosening up of what we can change in FP/store listings with sales? Like return policy?

Magazine Guy has a great idea re: global settings.

I echo the global, it would sure make things easier for me.

Is anyone on hand that is conversant with the eBay API? Blackthorne has been trying to straighten out some issues with bulk return policy changes that are at least in part due to API bugs. Anyone there know the status of that issue?

Hi ahintofhistory,
The bulk edit tool is compatible with both Macs and PCs, so I'm not sure what was happening there. There are times when some listings can't be revised in bulk. When you tried PC vs. a Mac, did you revise the same listings both times?

Ok, now I tried using the search and find to replace text in my item descriptions using TL and that doesn't work either. Any suggestions on how we can actually edit this info that WORKS?

Also, Electronicspart. Regarding #15...
I do not know of a search tool yet that will assess whether your listings have a clean bill of health, but I will mention that as long as your listings have an accepted electronic payment method in them by October 20th, they should be fine. In other words, if PayPal, credit card or ProPay is offered [and Money Order was in the payment methods taken also], then Money order will be masked to all buyers.

You also have a grace period until January to remove any references to checks and money orders in the description section of your listings.
Hope that helps,
Hagar

there was nothing here. I came back today and low and

I just wanted to stop by and say that I successfully revised 8,500 store listings using Turbolister all at one time.

I added return policy, handling time (I list through Vendio and it doesn't have handling time on listing form), revised the acceptable payment types in the ebay payment portion of the listing (at the bottom), and wrote up new "Payment instructions" to take out reference to other payment methods. The best part was that I searched and replaced and removed personal checks and money orders from the body of my description text.

The application is bulky to use, acts like it is frozen or about to crash, used 100% of my system resources (and I have a decent computer) but it WORKS! My advice is to maybe not to do so much all at once - or let it run overnight or sometime when you don't need the computer for other tasks

) View Listings | Report Oct-07-08 10:14 PDT 34 of 107
This is a very busy time of year for us to be trying to get TL to work. The grace period doesn't help much when you can't get the tools to work.

Hi buffaloe-creek,
Unfortunately, the online bulk edit tool does not allow you to edit your self-hosted pictures URL. The best solution for doing this in bulk is to use Turbo Lister.

Download Turbo Lister from here: http://pages.ebay.com/turbo_lister/. Then you can synchronize your listings from the site and make those changes in bulk.

Post # 4 in this workshop has more detailed instructions on this process.

Mike

Hagar,

as long as Propay is not free (as promised) for sellers having their own gateway provider, no Ebay seller can accept it, so changing one's listings to that option would be foolish.

www.1stvideo.com (#10)

Yes, it can be done via File Exchange. Here’s what you will need to do:

Download all your templates by going to File Exchange -> Create a Download Request. IN the Download Request area, select “All Listing Templates”

It will take some time (~20 mins) for your download file to be ready. Once the file is ready, go to the “View Completed Downloads” section and download your file.

You can open the file you downloaded in a spreadsheet or a database utility (preferred – as it won’t mess up with your description). In your preferred software, you will need to change the duration of your listings template to 30 days or GTC.

Then you will need to create a “Revise” action by adding the action column to your file. This will tell FE that you want to modify those templates vs creating new ones.

You can find more information on the “Selling Manager Pro File Management Center User Guide” from the Instruction and Resources page of File Exchange. This document will tell you exactly how to create the new columns that SMP can read.

I’ll also ask one of our FE experts to get in touch with you to make sure you are able to revise your templates.

Thanks,

Gui

Do we have to purchase the new payment method to add to our stores. I have virtual terminal already and use paypal for everything else. Will the cart be added to each listing??? If I need to purchase it, where do I get it.
