Description: In this workshop, Debbie Levitt, CEO of As Was (an eBay Certified Provider since 2004), will take a look at one listing from workshop participants, and offer free advice on how to make that listing more likely to make a sale. She'll be looking at design, layout, pictures, description, policies, and more ingredients that go into converting shoppers into buyers.

There are two things I tend to tell people over and over, so I will type them here and then refer to this post.
1) Don't try to design your information. Info is easiest to read and understand when it's just info. It's not as easy to read and it looks less professional when it's all centred, various colours, various fonts, Comic Sans, really big, everything's bold, etc...
Like what I'm writing now, we read left-justified, simple text. Your newspaper is printed that way. Everything is. That's easiest to read.
Let your information be information. Let your design be your design. Don't try to design your information.

Hi, Here is an auction I would like to have you look at. I have been running a number of "lot of 25" auctions in this format and prices have been all over the place: 130380388867 Thanks! Jim
2) Layout is like a newsletter. You put things in places. Maybe you have columns.
Design is about projecting an image, mood, or personality. It's about using space, colour, shapes, patterns, photos, images, illustrations, etc... Anything that creates a mood.
To me, collage is design for the lazy. If someone takes a few items you sell and slaps them next to each other, I tend to not see that as design. You haven't really given me a company image. You've said, "Hey, I sell these things."
So if I've told you read this post, think about really using DESIGN... a mood, a personality. It'll help you stand out, and it'll help keep attention in today's low-attention-span world!

OK. We have some items we would like to sell on eBay, such as ceramic/porcelain items from my parents, that we do not know the value of or have an exact description for (eg: ceramic vase, black, with Oriental flower pattern). What would be the best way to go about this process?
Hi Debbie, I don't have any format to my ebay store, would like some help with that. my listings, i think are ok, what's your opinion? carol Item number: 370354865416

buttonnoseboutique, read post #26 here. Same for you!
Shipping policies first, don't centre everything, and think about having a unique design for your business.
Smoke free, pet free home tells me you're just a random person keeping stuff around her house. Consider NOT saying these things. Buyers assume they are getting something clean and appropriate!

No galleries at the top. You got people here. Let's keep them! No distractions!
That template is a bit ouch. I would not use it. I would use something more likely to draw people in than be visually confusing or distracting. I mean, it's a shoelace... why are there HARPS?!?!?
SAme for you... read posts 8 and 14 here. Don't design your info!
Think about editing policies. Don't have so many policy sections. Take out the "fine print" and work those details into the other sections where they are relevant.
