For those of you who are new to this workshop format, we'll begin by posting our slides. Once the slides have been posted, we will answer any questions you might have.
All pictures and content featured in our workshop are from our ShipWorks software. ShipWorks is for people who sell online. It connects to your seller account or online store. It downloads your orders and makes it easy to create shipping labels, manage customers and emails, update the online status of each order, and more.
My name is Wes Clayton, and I am a co-founder of Interapptive. We have been developing ShipWorks since 2002. Over the years we have had the pleasure of working with a wide variety of online merchants and eBay sellers, helping them to streamline and automate their post sale process.
As we typically hear from online merchants, shipping can be an incredible pain point for your business. Creating shipping labels, generating customs forms, and communicating with the customer can be a labor-intensive process. Manually managing all of the touch points required to fulfill each order can be challenging, time consuming, and error prone.
By using an automation tool like ShipWorks, many of these tasks can be turned into a point-and-click process. Errors can be eliminated, and your time savings can be put to use in other areas of your business.
Before we can start working with orders, we need to get those orders into ShipWorks. Simply click the download button and ShipWorks will securely communicate with your eBay account to download all new transactions.
On the left side of the screen orders are categorized using filters. Filters are a powerful tool that automatically categorize your orders. By default ShipWorks creates filters that show orders that are Awaiting Payment, Need Feedback, and Ready to Ship. You can easily customize and create new filters to achieve a workflow that is tailored to your business.
Once the download has completed you are ready to start selecting filters to work with your orders.
Each order that is downloaded from eBay includes all of the relevant order information, including the bill-to / ship-to address from eBay and PayPal, specific line item details, payment method, and order charges (tax, shipping, etc.). Clicking on an order in the grid will show all of the associated order details on the bottom of the main screen.
Need to find an order quickly? Just type the customer name, email address, or buyer ID and ShipWorks will search as you type. You can also use the order grid to locate orders by selecting a filter or sorting on any column in the grid.
Most tasks in ShipWorks can be performed on multiple orders at the same time. We call this batch processing. This includes printing shipping labels, sending emails, printing invoices, packing slips, and reports, and tracking shipments.
Let's say you have 100 orders for XYZ Widget and you want to print packing slips for all of them. With ShipWorks it's as simple as selecting the orders in the grid and choosing the packing slip template to print with. The ShipWorks template system allows you to create templates for any type of document output you need, including text, CSV, html, and fully branded invoices, packing slips, and email.
Can this tool allow the seller to see the shipping methods, ie, USPS, UPS, FEDEX, and see there rates for each shipment destination and choose which carrier would be less expensive to ship and estimated ship times?
ShipWorks directly integrates all major shipping providers - DHL, FedEx, UPS, and USPS (through Endicia or Stamps.com) into one application. You use your own shipping account numbers in ShipWorks and any negotiated rates you might have are utilized.
To ship these 100 XYZ widgets, we'll choose USPS via Endicia. The Endicia integration in ShipWorks offers support for all major USPS mail classes, domestic and international, and includes the ability to automatically generate customs documents. We select the orders to ship and click the Endicia button. Now we can make any last minute changes to service options - individually or to multiple orders at the same time. If you need to weigh your packages before you ship them, weights can be automatically populated from a scale attached to your computer.
To print the postage, simply click the Process button. All 100 shipping labels with postage will print, customs documents will be generated if required, and your customers will be emailed automatically. An entire batch of labels has been printed…. 100 of them, in just a few seconds. All of these were processed in just a few clicks, without copying and pasting or re-keying any information!
Printing labels for DHL, FedEx, and UPS is just as easy. Select the order or orders you want to process and select the desired carrier. Support for these carriers is built directly into ShipWorks, so you can use one application to process all your shipments.
By using an integrated tool like ShipWorks, you can eliminate manual re-keying and copying/pasting, significantly reducing errors and saving you time and money.
Is ShipWorks a software download that needs to be installed on each pc that prints the shipping label? If so, what's the recommended size of space we should allocate to run it efficiently?
Once your shipping labels are complete, it is very important to update eBay and notify your buyers that their items have shipped. Promptly updating eBay and communicating to your buyers helps improve customer service, resulting in improved DSRs, and a reduction in "where is my item" inquiries. ShipWorks does these things automatically through "Actions". You can setup Actions to run specific tasks when events occur within the ShipWorks… it’s like auto pilot for your post-sale.
Continuing with our example, as the shipping labels are processed each auction in eBay will be updated by ShipWorks to indicate the shipping service used and the resulting tracking number. Actions can also be setup to send branded email notifications with clickable tracking links (and any additional up-sale or marketing content), print labels or reports to any printer, or change the local status of the order.
ShipWorks has proven itself as an indispensible tool for managing the demanding shipping needs of eBay sellers. But how can it help with other aspects of managing your business?
ShipWorks allows you to view rates for the respective carriers you might be using in the software. ShipWorks does not offer direct rate shopping capabilites, but you can view the rates and services for each carrier on their respective screens, then make a decision on how you would like to ship.
If you would like to make use of the USPS postage printing capabilites in the ShipWorks software, you will need an account with either Endicia or Stamps.com.
Yes, ShipWorks is a desktop software application, and it supports multiple computers on a network. You can install the software on as many PCs as needed, and everyone can view the same data. Recommended system requirements are listed here: http://www.interapptive.com/shipworks/requirements.html
ShipWorks supports domestic and international shipping for all of our integrated carriers. For international shipping, it will automatically generate all necessary customs documents.

Report Templates in ShipWorks can show you information about your business that enables you make better decisions. You can generate Product Trend reports, Shipping Cost Reports (to analyze how much you charged for shipping vs. what you actually paid), reports to show orders by the time of day the sale completed, XML and CSV exports, and much more.
Customer Filters in ShipWorks identify top customers that meet key criteria, helping you to market more effectively to those buyers in order to increase repeat purchases.
As an example, maybe you would like to create a targeted marketing campaign to your existing customers. For this example let’s say you want to find all customers who have spent more than $250 with you in the last six months, and also ordered XYZ Widget. Since you just got some great new “XYZ Extreme Widgets” in stock, you think that particular set of customers would be interested in this new product offering.
With ShipWorks, you can create a filter to show you all customers in your system who match that criteria. Then, in just a few clicks, you can email all of them from ShipWorks to let them know of this great new special. Alternatively, you can export the list of customers to a flat file that can be imported into your existing email campaign management tool.
Does shipworks automtically input the trcking number into eBay so trakcing information can show up to the buyer or does the seller need to input that data?
"Yes, you can continue to use your custom label layouts that you have designed with DAZzle. ShipWorks also supports the ability to send order related information to your Endicia layouts.
For example, maybe you would like your printed labels to include the buyer's eBay ID, or the data you store in the eBay Custom Field. By utilizing Endicia's Rubber Stamp feature along with ShipWorks "tokens", you can set the software to populate your labels with any data point associated with your order.
Some customers use this to streamline their pick/pack process -- since you have all the order information on the label itself you have one document to pick from."
If you are using an Endicia Professional account with ShipWorks, you can generate Bulk Acceptance Scan Documents. This links all of the day's USPS shipments to a single barcoded form. Once this barcode is scanned by the postal service, all of the shipments for that day are marked as "accepted" in the USPS system.
