Hello and welcome to today’s workshop! We’ll be around from 11-noon PST to answer any questions you may have on the material discussed.
If you’re an eBay Marketplace Research subscriber, you may already have noticed a change in the way your MR page looks – for the past month you’ll have seen this message atop the EMR landing page:
Today is the day that eBay is retiring its Marketplace Research services, and you will now be able to migrate your account to Terapeak or elsewhere. Upon logging in to your account, you will be presented with the opportunity to move your subscription to Terapeak. By following the links, your subscription rate will not change, and you will have access to Terapeak’s advanced reporting. We’re sure you’ll enjoy the faster, more reliable market research available from Terapeak, as well as our nimble and easy-to-use interface.
Let’s look at the steps required for migration.
Until this week, when logging into EMR (Marketplace Research by eBay), you have been directed to this landing page:
From this page you can choose to Sign up, Sign in (if you already have an existing Terapeak account), or learn more about Marketplace Research by Terapeak (by following the link in the final sentence).
Essentially, this page exists to assure you that your eBay password will not be shared with anyone (not even Terapeak)—it remains your confidential information.
By clicking “I agree” on this page, you will be taken to a user page that will permit you to subscribe to Terapeak. Your user page will know whether you are a store owner, a basic or premium subscriber, etc.
You will then be taken to PayPal, or to a credit card processing page, depending on how you wish to pay for your subscription.
Speaking of payments, eBay Store owners have had research included in their Store packages, so Terapeak will migrate these users free of charge until January 2009. After this time, free subscriptions will be terminated and the regular fee will be required. Those with Store accounts who do not wish to continue their subscriptions will not be required to pay.
On Terapeak’s main page (www.terapeak.com), you will see a Log-in button at the top right hand corner of your screen. Click this and enter your user name and password.
This will take you to the help section—a great way to get started with Terapeak. On the help page you’ll find video tutorials, FAQ, links to recent eBay workshops, and a list of other eBay services.
Videos are also available at www.terapeak.com/demo/. You’ll notice that some videos include a small speaker icon –
- which means that the video has sound. We have been upgrading our videos to include sound and better resolution, and these will be released as they become ready.
Video tutorials are an excellent way to learn, as it’s like having a research expert in your office helping to lead you through your reports.
We love workshops to be interactive, so please feel free to ask your questions that directly relate to this topic.
Added note: If you click on the "Watch this discussion" link, you will receive an email each time someone posts to the workshop.

Terapeak provides Marketplace research based on closed eBay listings- do you currently have an EMR subscription? That will help me answer your first question
The cost is the same as EMR, but for the month we have a special promotion that is 60% regular price (works out in the US to 9.99/mo, 119./year) if you purchase the year's subscription.
We also have a free reporting section, which is much like eBay's completed listings, with the added benefit of charts and averages - 14 days of data is included, and can be found on our home page under "Price Report".
My concern with Terapeak is that any good till canceled items will not show up in the research until all items have been sold or the listing canceled - is anything being done to fix this - with the big switch tomorrow it almost makes the research useless until this is addressed.
EMR is short for eBay Marketplace Research - this is a subscription service that eBay has offered up until today. Moving forward, Terapeak's tools will be offered in it's place.
Sellers use Terapeak to evaluate the market - determine what goods are worth, what the chance of sale is, and how to build their listings, among many other things.
In your opinion do you think TeraPeak will be easier to use or that the the old EMR was easier? And will TeraPeak's results be more accurate and laid out better then the old EMR
Good question - this is data not previously released by eBay. We are working with them to make this information available as soon as possible.
We have thousands of existing users who make great use of the available data and have improved their sales, there is a lot of data available currently within Terapeak.
We receive a lot of positive feedback from our users on the useability of Terapeak. Of course, it is different than emr, and is more customizable and includes more ways of looking at the data, so you will notice a difference, but I believe it will be a positive change.
Terapeak's data comes directly from eBay and we have a very strong up-time (99.99%) in the past months. Keep in mind that Terapeak's only business is to provide market research, so we are very dedicated to providing the best, easiset to use research we can.
Thank you for the vote of confidence! We are always working on improvement, and this will move even more rapidly now that we are working with the larger eBay market.
Hi Terapeak: Before getting Market Research MR, which I found easy to understand and very helpful to me as seller in trying to determine pricing, title and subtitle listing, how other sellers write their listings, etc., I tried something called Hammertap. I took the 10 lessons and could never figure out how to get answers that I needed to do listings because it provided too much information and required too many steps. Is Terapeak more like MR in just requiring that I find the right match for item that I want to sell and then will return me various useful data or very complex like the Hammer, requiring lots of imput before answers?
I have used all of the eBay related market research tools, and honestly find Terapeak the simplest to use. There is a lot of information available on the site, but start with a simple item search first to get the feel for it. The data returned is very user friendly and easy to look at.
If you are mostly using market research for listings and pricing, the Search Report will be your best friend. If you want more complex reporting, you can also move into two year trending, seller reporting, etc, but if you're looking to keep it simple, use the Search Report to pull info on a certain product and you'll be all set!
Hi Denise: I look forward to the changeover because I have never sold anything but want to do some research first. I notice there are various levels for joining. What do you recommend for someone getting started and can I change categories as I become more prolific and proficient seller on eBay. Thanks, Ira
(hey are you related to greatswag? ) If you are selling on .com, I would recommend starting with the eBay.com subscription. This will provide you with data based on your market.
Some sellers are selling internationally, and then add international data so that they may understand the markets abroad. Once you're more into selling, you may wish to consider adding these data sets as well.
Regardless, you're being very smart by doing your research before investing in inventory. If you have an item or category you are planning to sell in, research it first, before you invest the cash!
