Thank you so much for joining us for this workshop today!
My name is Jennifer Ibarra and I’m the Marketing Manager for eBay Giving Works. I’m joined today by Tamas Karpati, our Product Manager, and Oktay Dogramaci, the Chief Technology Officer at MissionFish, which powers eBay Giving Works.
Tamas and Oktay were part of a large and very hard-working team that brought you these exciting changes that we rolled out last week, and they’ll help me answer questions you may have today.
Just a quick note before we begin: while we’re hoping that these changes will encourage those of you who have never used eBay Giving Works before to try it for the first time, today’s workshop will be geared towards those who have listed with eBay Giving Works before, and want to know how these changes affect the way they’ve been using the program.
For those of you who’d like to learn more about the program, stay tuned for a workshop soon that will go over the basics of eBay Giving Works, and of course, you can always learn more by going to our site at http://www.ebaygivingworks.com.
As you know, we’ve introduced a number of changes, all meant to make it easier than ever to sell with eBay Giving Works and track your donation activity, fundraise successfully on eBay, and buy all of the great items that benefit your favorite cause. These changes are the direct result of the great feedback we’ve gotten from so many of you over the years, and we’re excited that after many months of hard work behind the scenes, we’re finally able to share them!
Here’s a run-down of what’s changed:
Our websites You’ll notice that we have a new look and feel at www.ebaygivingworks.com. We heard your feedback about wanting to get to helpful information much more quickly and having access to great tips, tools, and resources for listing successfully with eBay Giving Works, so we updated our site to give you more of what you were looking for!
Nonprofits also have a brand new site at MissionFish! Not only did MissionFish update their look as well, but they’ve put together a robust site to help nonprofits build the right strategy to succeed in online fundraising with eBay Giving Works.
We’ve updated our look in the Sell Your Item form The next time you log into the Sell Your Item flow, you’ll notice that the eBay Giving Works section looks different.
We’ve made it a little bigger, so you’ll be able to find it more easily when you’re creating your listing. And for your convenience, if you have a favorite nonprofit you frequently donate to with your eBay Giving Works listings, this nonprofit will be pre-selected for you. We’ll also introduce you to other nonprofits you may be interested in, but of course, you can always choose among the more than 13,000 other organizations to benefit with your listing.
You’ll also notice that we’ve introduced the new Terms & Conditions for the program. Please note that you’ll need to accept these before you can create your next eBay Giving Works listing, even though you’ve already registered with the program before. That’s because by agreeing to these Terms & Conditions, you’ll activate your new Donation Account, and you’ll enable MissionFish to collect your donation by your preferred payment method.
Don’t worry, you’ll only have to do this once, and then you’ll be all set!
We’re in My eBay! One of the biggest changes we’ve made is to integrate all of your donation activity into My eBay.
In the past, you had to log into a separate account on a separate site, your My MissionFish Seller Account, to track your pending and past donations, download tax receipts, and more. Many of you told us that you’d prefer to have all of these features in My eBay for convenience, so we’ve done just that!
Your Donation Account in My eBay replaces your My MissionFish Seller Account, and has all of the same functionality. As mentioned above, you’ll need to activate it first by accepting the terms and conditions. You can do this either in the Sell Your Item flow, or by clicking on the Donation Account link in My eBay and clicking on the Terms & Conditions link.
Be sure to take some time to explore your Donation Account to see what information and functionality is included. Here’s a quick overview of what you can do in the Donation Account:
See the latest news and announcements from the program
View your current and past eBay Giving Works listings
Proactively pay any pending donations that result from your eBay Giving Works sales (note: as before, if you’d prefer to have your donation automatically collected, MissionFish will collect the donation on the second Monday after your listing sells)
I had a listing end May 14th before the change was made. I have not made my donation yet, how do I make the donation through the new donation account area or the old method?
If you accept the Terms & Conditions (you'll find a link to this in your new Donation Account), you'll be able to have the donation collected automatically via your preferred payment method, or you can pay proactively via your new Donation Account!
When I click onto donation payment method it takes me to the seller account paoge = which tells me how much I owe eBay and how to pay eBay, how do I set it up that my donations are funded the same way my eBay fees are apid?
Hi powerwheelerchris, We've noticed a glitch where the link to the Donation Payment Method from the Donation Account is going to the wrong location. Click on the link to your Personal Information under your Account in My eBay, and you will see your eBay Giving Works payment method on that page. We'll update that link in the Donation Account right away.
You'll only see an eBay Giving Works payment method on that page if you've already agreed to the new program Terms & Conditions.
So I went through my prefences and set up the paypal link for payments. Everything appeared to go fine and it even says agreement on file on my prefernces page, however at the top of the page there is a big alert that reads:
"We were unable to save your payment method information for future donation payments. If you would like to modify your donation payment method, please go to My eBay.
how do I know my payment mehtod is connected correctly?
Yes, you'll still be able to choose the donation % for your listing .
Do you know if the nonprofit is already registered with eBay Giving Works? If not, you can invite them to join the program by clicking here.
If they are already registered with the program, but would like to start selling directly, they can find out how to get started here.
Direct Selling can only be done when the nonprofit owns the item that is being listed and they themselves (or a Trading Assistant they've hired) are listing the item. A Community Seller can not sell as a Direct Seller unless they are in a contractual agreement with the nonprofit (in essence, they are acting as a Trading Assistant) and the nonprofit owns that good.
I hope that helps! The rules around Direct Selling are fairly strict and can be a bit complicated, so I'm happy to explain further .
Strange, I did reeive an e-mail from Paypal saying that Your Billing Agreement with MissionFish has been created but it does not show that on my preferences page on My eBay.
Thank you for having this workshop. I really appreciate as I am sure charity ebay sellers also do, the expansion of the Giving Works area on the SYI form as well as the addition of the eBay Giving works link on the My eBay page.
I am sure this will be a lot easier for all charity sellers.
I do have a suggestion maybe this is going to be implemented later. But for those new to eBay giving works would a link for the "how to of charity selling through Mission Fish" be included in the My Ebay area as well.
I think this would be beneficial for those who are new or need to get information quickly about Mission Fish and the process.
Thank you for listening and implementing these changes.
Thanks. Yes they are registered with Mission Fish - is that the same as e"Bay Giving Works? Yes, they will own the items and list themselves. It is for a short-term fund raiser.
i also have some items in my store that when they sell 100% of the sale prices goes to MissionFish, do i need to do anything with these listings that were created months ago to make the complianant with the new MissionFish roll out?
Are you a Commununity Seller or a nonprofit Direct Seller?
For Community Sellers, there is no longer a reason to send them to MissionFish, since they will not need to register separately--everything will be contained within eBay now (although MissionFish will still process the donations that result from your eBay Giving Works sales).
For Direct Sellers, they do need to be certified for eBay Giving Works by MissionFish, and we do make sure to link them to MissionFish when we can .
We'll make sure those links are in the most intuitive places, so thanks for your suggestion!!
No need to do anything to the listings you've created--as long as you've accepted the Terms & Conditions (which it looks like you have), you're all set!
Yes, I was answering your question (post #18), I apologize for being unclear .
Because MissionFish's site is primarily targeted to nonprofits, we don't normally send sellers to their site. I was trying to understand whether you were a Community Seller or a nonprofit .
The Donation Account is live in My eBay! You can find it in the "Account" section in My eBay. There should be a link for the Donation Account in that section.
To help people find the donation account link, I thought you guds would have stuck a new icon next to it like eBay has done for other features added to the My eBay page.
I was concerned for the newbie seller of charity auctions having a place to directly go for instructions on how to sell through Mission Fish in the next screen once the Donation Account link has been clicked. I was looking at your image in post #5.
Unfortunately, we've come to the end of the Workshop...
Thank you so much again for joining us! We’d love to keep hearing from you, so please continue to post your thoughts and questions in this thread, or send me an email at jmi@ebay.com.
